The Galápagos Islands in Ecuador represent one of the world’s greatest wildlife paradises. Nowhere else on Earth can you observe wild animals so effortlessly in their pristine natural habitat. How to get there
From mainland Ecuador, we flew to Baltra Island, which serves as the main gateway to the archipelago. From Baltra, we traveled to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. After thoroughly exploring this remarkable island, we took a ferry to the enchanting Isla Isabela. To reach the third major island, San Cristóbal, we had to return to Santa Cruz first before catching another ferry to complete our island-hopping adventure.
What to Experience on Santa Cruz
Our first stop was the renowned Charles Darwin Research Station, named after the legendary explorer and naturalist whose groundbreaking Theory of Evolution was inspired by the unique wildlife of these very islands. We also explored the stunning Tortuga Bay and the mysterious Las Grietas, both offering incredible wildlife encounters. Throughout the island, we were amazed by the abundance of land iguanas, marine iguanas, playful sea lions, majestic giant tortoises, graceful pelicans, colorful crabs, tropical fish, and countless bird species.
What to Experience on Isla Isabela
During an unforgettable snorkeling expedition to Los Túneles, we discovered one of the world’s most spectacular underwater wildlife sites. The crystal-clear waters revealed sharks gliding gracefully below, elegant rays, adorable penguins, striking blue-footed boobies, ancient sea turtles, and countless other marine species. We also strolled along pristine lagoons inhabited by flamingos and explored the island’s volcanic landscapes. At Concha de Perla, we had the magical experience of snorkeling alongside incredibly playful sea lions!
What to Experience on San Cristóbal
Sea lions truly rule this island paradise – they’re absolutely everywhere you look! We snorkeled in the company of these charismatic marine mammals and graceful sea turtles while discovering some of the Galápagos’ most breathtaking beaches. The highlight of our visit was exploring the famous Kicker Rock during another thrilling snorkeling tour, where we encountered magnificent hammerhead sharks, curious sea lions, gliding rays, impressive frigatebirds, blue-footed boobies, ancient sea turtles, and an incredible array of other marine life.
