The must do’s in Perth, Australia

All you want to know about Perth

Discover Perth, Western Australia’s vibrant capital and the only major city on Australia’s West coast. This modern metropolis perfectly balances urban sophistication with natural beauty, offering world-class dining, pristine beaches, expansive parklands, and unique Australian wildlife experiences – all within a remarkably liveable and accessible city environment.

Our comprehensive video guide explores every essential Perth highlight, from the stunning city skyline and Kings Park botanical wonderland to the historic charm of Fremantle and authentic Australian animal encounters. Whether you’re starting your Western Australia road trip adventure or exploring Perth as a destination in itself, this guide reveals why Perth consistently ranks among the world’s most liveable cities.

Kings Park: The Urban Jungle Experience

Kings Park is bigger than New York’s Central Park! We couldn’t believe we were still in the middle of a major city while walking through pristine Australian bushland. The views over Perth’s skyline and the Swan River are absolutely incredible, especially at sunset.

What blew us away:

  • The glass walkway that had us walking through treetops 15 meters high (a bit scary but SO worth it!)
  • That ancient 750-year-old boab tree that made us feel like we were touching history
  • Wildflowers everywhere during spring (September-November) – it’s like nature’s own festival
  • The War Memorial with its eternal flame and stunning city views

Elizabeth Quay: Sipping craft beers

his waterfront area completely changed how we saw Perth! What used to be an industrial wasteland is now this gorgeous precinct where locals hang out, kids play in the fountains, and you can watch the Swan River flow by while sipping craft beer.

Elizabeth Quay highlights:

  • Sunset drinks with those incredible river views (the photos speak for themselves!)
  • Watching Jens stroll around in the playground while we enjoyed coffee
  • River cruises that show you Perth from a completely different angle
  • Amazing restaurants where you can have the best meals

The whole area has this relaxed, sophisticated vibe that surprised us. This isn’t just tourist stuff – locals genuinely love hanging out here too.

Fremantle: Like Stepping Back in Time

Just 20 minutes from Perth city center, Fremantle feels like a different world. Think historic colonial buildings, street art around every corner, and some of the best coffees in Australia. We spent an entire day here and could have easily spent more.

Cohunu Koala Park

This is where our Australian animal dreams came true! Just 30 minutes from Perth city, we found ourselves cuddling koalas, hand-feeding kangaroos, and getting up close with all the iconic Aussie animals we’d traveled halfway around the world to see.

The best part? This isn’t some touristy zoo experience. The animals roam in large, natural enclosures, and you can tell they’re well cared for.

Why You Should Visit Perth

Before arriving in Perth, we thought it might be just another Australian city. What we discovered was this incredibly liveable place where you can wake up in a sophisticated urban environment, spend your morning walking through ancient bushland, your afternoon on pristine beaches, and your evening enjoying world-class food and wine.

Perth has this unique energy – it’s isolated enough to maintain its authentic Australian character, but cosmopolitan enough to offer incredible cultural experiences. The locals are genuinely friendly (not just tourist-friendly), and there’s this sense that you’re experiencing the “real” Australia, not a polished tourist version.

The bottom line: Perth might not be on every traveler’s bucket list, but after spending time here, we think it should be. It’s got everything that makes Australia special – stunning nature, incredible wildlife, great food and wine, beautiful beaches, and that relaxed Aussie lifestyle – all wrapped up in one very liveable city.

Our Perth video shows you everything we experienced, from those magical sunset moments in Kings Park to the excitement of our first koala cuddle. Trust us, after watching this, you’ll understand why we fell in love with this amazing city and why it’s become an essential stop on any Western Australia adventure!
