Aruba: One Happy Island

Aruba is more than just sun, sand and sea

Aruba is famous as the ‘One Happy Island,’ and the moment you see the smiling faces at Queen Beatrix Airport, you’ll understand why. While the powdery white sands of Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are world-renowned, in 2026, this island has a rugged side that is a absolute must-see. We spent a week traversing the island, searching for the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure.

Aruba Eagle Beach

Eagle Beach: The Most Beautiful Beach in the World?

You simply cannot visit Aruba without sinking your feet into the sand of Eagle Beach. In 2026, this beach was once again voted one of the most beautiful in the world.

  • The Fofoti Trees: These iconic, wind-sculpted trees are the ultimate spot for your perfect Instagram shot.

  • Sea Turtles: Did you know Eagle Beach is a major nesting site? If you’re lucky and visit during the right season (March to September), you might see tiny turtles making their way to the ocean.

Off-Road Adventure in Arikok National Park

Nearly 20% of Aruba is a protected nature reserve: Arikok. This is where you definitely need a rental car (preferably a 4×4!).

  • The Natural Pool (Conchi): A hidden pool protected by rugged rocks. The waves crash spectacularly against the coast here. It’s a challenging drive, but the dip in the crystal-clear water is worth every bump.

  • Caves: Visit Fontein Cave to see ancient rock drawings left behind by the Arawak Indians centuries ago.

Colorful Oranjestad & San Nicolas

Beyond nature, Aruba offers a great dose of culture.

  • Oranjestad: The capital is a vibrant mix of Dutch architecture in bright Caribbean colors. Hop on the free tram that runs through the center for a relaxed tour of the shops.

  • San Nicolas (Sunrise City): In 2026, this city is the ‘Street Art Capital’ of the Caribbean. The walls are covered in massive, colorful murals. It feels much rawer and less touristy than the north.`

The Best Beaches of Aruba

  • Eagle Beach: Famous for its white sand and iconic trees. The widest beach on the island and the best place for a magical sunset.

  • Palm Beach: The place-to-be for action. Here you’ll find high-rise resorts, lively beach bars, and plenty of watersports.

  • Arashi Beach: A local favorite in the north, near the California Lighthouse. The water is crystal clear and the snorkeling is fantastic.

  • Baby Beach: A stunning, shallow lagoon in the south. The calm water makes this the ultimate beach for families and relaxed swimmers.

  • Rodgers Beach: Located right next to Baby Beach, but much quieter and more authentic. You’ll still see colorful fishing boats here—perfect for avoiding the crowds.

  • Mangel Halto: A hidden gem among the mangroves. Walk down the wooden pier straight into neon-glow blue water to snorkel along the reef.

  • Andicuri Beach: On the rugged north coast. Not for swimming due to strong currents, but incredible for bodyboarders and those seeking peace.

Where to Stay in Aruba?

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Aruba Resort. During our trip, we found that this resort is truly focused on comfort for all ages. While it isn’t located directly on the beach, the hotel’s free shuttle gets you onto the white sands of Palm Beach in just minutes.

  • The Pool: The resort is built around a large saltwater pool, which is great for the kids (and better for your skin!). There are plenty of shaded spots and comfortable loungers for a relaxing afternoon.

  • Spacious Design: The rooms are modern and spacious enough for the whole family. The atmosphere is much quieter than the large ‘high-rise’ hotels, which is very pleasant after a day of island adventure.

  • Location: You are within walking distance of the lively Mill Mall and numerous restaurants, so you don’t always have to take the car out at night.
